WORKSHOPS

A space designated for people to see what workshops are and the schedule of future workshops.

Ciudad Museo’s workshops consist of offering a safe space for the community and everyone who supports the group of muralists throughout their platforms, encouraging others to paint and create; whether it’s from home or directly with the artists. And to actively become part of the vision of collectively restoring common and shared spaces through the power of art. Gratefully accepting every opportunity and kind invitation to connect with those that need it the most.

Banderitas de la Puertorriqueñidad (2021) by Ciudad Museo

This workshop was offered and sponsored by Ciudad Museo, in their new and renovated space, to two groups of students of the Fine Arts School Program of Añasco as a part of the events related to the Puerto Rican Week. Each of the girls painted their own little flag, giving them not only the materials but also the freedom of adding whatever they wanted to personalize them. Taking a final picture with their pieces, which would be exhibited in the same Program.

Ciudad Museo in Guayanilla and Peñuelas (2020)

As an effect of the high seismic activity and a series of quakes during the end of 2019 and throughout the beginning of 2020, the municipalities located on the South of Puerto Rico were the ones mainly affected by the natural events. Finding themselves in desperate need of external aid and basic necessities, due to the high rate of houses and other structures lost to the abruptly unexpected movements. Causing many families to live in tents, settling in different camps and surviving on emergency donations. Therefore during the month of January 2020 Ciudad Museo accompanied the Municipality of Añasco, to offer a few of these communities basic aid as well as providing a bit of healthy and creative entertainment. Providing the materials for children or whoever wished to take part of the painting, expressing themselves with the assistance of Ciudad Museo.

Siembra (2019) by Ciudad Museo

This workshop was held in collaboration with a small group of young girls from Bronx P.S. 392 and the Girl Scout Troop 1392 in New York, U.S.A., during the month of June 2019; as a part of a trip sponsored by Project Refuge PR to be able to participate of the Puerto Rican Day Parade held in the city during the summer every year. The concept of this workshop was inspired on the act of planting seeds to watch them bloom as a reference of these kids, the education they receive and how they will transform the future of this world little by little. Which is why each one of them was giving the task to individually paint a different stage of a growing plant, which when all put together would show the development of one common organism, making every piece an essential part of the process.

Manos de Huerteritos (2019) by Ciudad Museo

This muralism workshop was realized in collaboration with a group called “Huerteritos” part of Club-4H, who focuses on creating environmental awareness impacting specifically young kids through educational workshops related to the community. Forming part of the Bustops Series (2018-2019) done by Ciudad Museo, as they painted Bustop #9, located in front of Escuela de la Comunidad in Barrio Espino in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Allowing them to be messy and hand paint freely with the help of Ciudad Museo’s artists, as well as adding their signature four leaf clovers, which identifies Club-4H anywhere they go.

Génesis (2018) by Ciudad Museo

This muralism workshop was realized in collaboration of the young kids that formed part of the Summer Camp Program held in the Academia de Bellas Artes in Añasco, Puerto Rico, during the month of June 2018. This same place, formerly known as Escuela Sergio Ramírez de Arellano-Hostos, was the school were Ciudad Museo settled in and from where idea of calling the artpiece “Genesis” came from. This activity was meant to briefly expose these boys and girls to native Caribbean flora and fauna, found on the island they call home. While painting the mural there was also an emphasis on the importance of teamwork which has shown to slowly but effectively transform communities; giving people a higher sense of belonging as the take action by their own terms.
