WHO ARE WE?
Ciudad Museo’s members and objectives

Ciudad Museo was founded in 2015 by Gabriela Ríos and Cristopher Pellot. This project began as a community high school project in Escuela Sergio Ramírez de Arellano-Hostos in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Later, becoming a nonprofit organization that works based on direct commissions and/or sponsorships.

Initially the group was formed by temporary volunteers. But as the organization kept on growing, volunteers became official members and integrated themselves into the muralist collective.

Ciudad Museo has provided inclusive opportunities for people with artistic aspirations. Like for example young emerging artists that don’t always have an outlet where to express themselves or a place to develop in their fields of interest; given the common lack of local resources for artistic and cultural funding in Puerto Rico.

Which is why this nonprofit organization and its artists collective keeps making space where each one of their members is allowed to acquire enriching personal and professional experiences while also positively impacting their communities. Creating a major sense of belonging by simply having the willpower and desire to reform the spaces they live in, using art as a tool for the greater good.

WHAT WE DO?
Art for the community

Ciudad Museo Inc. focuses on the art of muralism. Using it to support their community. The group of young Puerto Ricans invest their spare time in planning out activities destined for their local’s enjoyment. This way, they’ve been able to positively impact countless people on the West side of Puerto Rico, aspiring to continue developing as artists throughout other areas of the island or even abroad. Exploring through their imagery, concepts like national identity, ancestral roots and ethnic origins, cultural customs, folkloric symbolisms, the need for environmental awareness and appreciation for their endangered national biodiversity, creole legends, historical characters, as well as other passing events to contextualize with their thematic murals a part of the Puerto Rican experience.

Transforming dead spaces, recovering abandoned public places through the art of muralism. Displaying one way of how creativity can be employed as a resource and/or solution. Supporting the growth in tourism activity, which ends up contributing to the economic development of local commerce; as well as offering to their people creative and educational workshops focused on art. Sharing and painting spaces with them; actively promoting cooperatives and self-sufficiency, creating a bigger sense of respect and love for what is their own. Weaving together an artistic legacy as a part of the contemporary Puerto Rican muralism scene.

What has Ciudad Museo done?

Murals Initiative by Ciudad Museo

Ciudad Museo has been painting murals through various public walls since 2015 with the mission of visually repairing the appearance of people’s frequented and shared spaces. Using art and muralism as a medium to reach out to their community and those who support them.

Bustops Series

Bustosps Series by Ciudad Museo

This series of murals is found spread throughout different sectors of the Añasco’s Municipality in Puerto Rico. Consisting of simple but eye-catching abstract designs made from geometric and organic lines and figures. Destined to make the stops visually captivating by also repurposing it’s previously abandoned structures.

Workshops

A space designated for people to see what workshops are and the schedule on future workshops.

Ciudad Museo’s workshops consist of offering a safe space for the community and everyone who supports the group of muralists throughout their platforms, encouraging others to paint and create; whether it’s from home or directly with the artists. And to actively become part of the vision of collectively restoring common and shared spaces through the power of art. Gratefully accepting every opportunity and kind invitation to connect with those that need it the most.

Projects

Ciudad Museo also participates in other types of events related to aiding other Puerto Rican communities, opening new spaces, competitions, conferences and other kinds of trips.
