This activity was made possible with the help offered by the actress Luna Vélez, Project Refuge PR, FEMA, NY Disaster Interfaith Services, Power Malu and #PaLantePR; held at the community’s sports court for and with the residents of Barrio Playa in Añasco, Puerto Rico. Ciudad Museo painted with them over six donated wooden boards, a few everyday experiences lived by most Puerto Ricans months after Hurricane Irma and María hit the island in 2017. In attempts to not only cast light upon these experiences but to also to validate people’s struggles after such natural disasters. Consequently affecting drastically and permanently Puerto Ricans who continued living on the island years to come.
This project was a request taken from the Villa Michelle shelter in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. With the idea of attracting more people to adopt pets in need of a permanent home. Installing two colorful murals, painted on PVC panels, in the main entrance of the place.
For the opening of the Animal Den Shelter in Añasco, Puerto Rico, the educator and professional emotional support animal trainer, Ivelis García, commissioned a painting of Bailey, an emotional therapy dog she had rescued working at Escuela La Salle in the same town right after Hurricane María in 2017. There he started impacting the lives of many children, helping them with their personal difficulties by lowering their stress levels to be able to work through their particular necessities. Which is why after passing, his memory had to be commemorated due to his important legacy, commitment, solidarity and empathy. Paying him homenaje during this activity, debuting his portrait, painted by Bryant López from Ciudad Museo.
This project was a proposal done to Ciudad Museo by the same community of Barrio Playa in Añasco, Puerto Rico; sponsored by their population and it’s merchants. With the purpose of being more inviting to people, as an attempt to expose the area on the map and grow their local economy based mainly on tourism. Since they were greatly impacted by the indefinite closure of their beach in 2017, after the passing of Hurricane María. These letters done out of PVC panels, cut out and painted by the members of the muralist collective were installed by TeamPlaya themselves. Always demonstrating their commitment and grand dedication to their own people.
