WHO ARE WE?
Ciudad Museo is a Puerto Rican non-profit organization, registered under the Government of Puerto Rico and based in Añasco. It holds state tax exemption under Section 1101.01 of the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code, as well as federal tax‑exempt status under 501(c)(3). Since its founding in 2015, Ciudad Museo has distinguished itself through the rehabilitation of public spaces using muralism, self‑managing significant projects both within and beyond Puerto Rico. With a multidisciplinary team, the organization is dedicated to decentralizing art by creating creative opportunities, primarily in the western region of the island. Its mission is to make these opportunities accessible to all who appreciate art and culture, leading initiatives such as the restoration of the Mirador de Añasco, the Afro Mural, educational workshops, and a variety of community projects and events.
Creating art and culture, one brushstroke at a time.
A decade ago, Ciudad Museo emerged as a community project started by a group of students from the former Sergio Ramírez de Arellano-Hostos Bilingual School in Añasco. Its original mission was to revitalize abandoned spaces through muralism, transforming “dead areas” into open‑air art galleries. However, the limited artistic resources available in the region led the project to grow beyond muralism, evolving into a platform that offers a broader range of services and experiences centered on the visual arts.
In 2018, the project formally became a nonprofit organization and established its headquarters, the Taller de Arte Ciudad Museo, in Añasco. Since then, Ciudad Museo has maintained a balance between its community‑based street work and the creative programming developed at its workshop, remaining at the forefront of Puerto Rico’s creative industry.
