Afro Mural (2021)
Dimensions 36’6” x 9’8” aprox.
This mural was a self-managed project aimed at celebrating the beauty of Afro-descendant lineage and the importance of proudly wearing curly hair in our Puerto Rican society. The mural also aimed to revitalize the facade of a building that had been abandoned for many years. The wall, which had previously been a reminder of disuse and decay, was transformed into a work of art that now brightens up the community. The design cleverly incorporates the natural foliage that had grown on top of the building, merging it into the representation of two characters with afro hair. This integration of nature emphasizes the message of harmony and connection to our roots. In doing so, the mural not only enhances the area but also invites reflection and education about the importance of accepting and celebrating cultural diversity.
Located on Carr. 109 K.M. 4 in Añasco, Puerto Rico.
